Ferryland finally made it to the lighthouse. It was quite a long, cold, windy hike!

Here is Blackall residence, just kitty corner to Hatcher where we ate half our meals (the other half was a long walk away in Engineering Building). Winnipeg Schools boys were on the second floor along with First Nations group, Yukon group, a couple of Japanese students, and a group from British Columbia and local boys from Newfoundland.

This is my view of the Avalon Mall taken from Fog City Restaurant where I was eating my supper. The Avalong Mall is the largest mall in St. John's, a city of 175000 people. It was close to the campus and many groups walked there. There was a shop called the Newfie Shop which sold many interesting Newfoundland items. Everyone got a 10% coupon there and most used it. On Thursday, the shop was really humming!

Here is a cannon on top of Signal Hill overlooking St. John's Harbor. It would have been hard for the enemy to get through the bottleneck with the many cannons they had facing their direction. The last cannon could rotate 360 degrees just in case one ship managed to get through. The boys were really fascinated with the cannons and had fun sitting on them and playing with them. Boys will be boys!!

This shot was taken from the top of Cabot Tower looking out on the Atantic Ocean towards Cape Spear, which you can see in the distance. It was a beautiful clear day with sunny skies most of the week! What a bonus! Too bad about Wednesday - our tour day!

This shot of Cabot Tower was taken from the Geo Centre halfway down the route into town. As you can see, the road was winding and a very steep climb. I managed to walk most of the way - then hailed a cab the rest. I did walk all the way down to Water Street and Duckworth Streets which I wandered up and down all afternoon.
